I have had many consultations with many doctors since I got the diagnosis of prostate cancer. PS is the only one who made me feel like he truly understood what was important to me and was able to tell it to me straight. Other doctors were vague about their results, PS was specific. I guess that's because he is also a world leading researcher as well as surgeon. It is clear he is the best out there. If you have prostate cancer, go and see him. It'll give you peace of mind.

Profile

Professor Prasanna Sooriakumaran, globally known by his initials PS, is a Professor of Urology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and the Lead for Urology at Cleveland Clinic London. He is a world leader in prostate cancer care. Professor Sooriakumaran is the only surgeon to win the University of Surrey’s Alumni Achievement Award for his “significant contributions to society and the field of prostate cancer care”. He was triple nominated for the Crystal Matula Award, awarded to the most promising young academic urologist in Europe.

Professor Sooriakumaran specialises in Retzius-sparing robotic prostatectomy, an operation that has far fewer side-effects than the standard robotic procedure in select prostate cancer patients. He is a world leader in this technique and produces world-class outcomes. Results after prostate cancer surgery are strongly related to the training of the surgeon who performs the operation, and Professor Sooriakumaran was trained by the world’s best: global pioneers of robotic surgery at Ivy League’s Cornell University in New York and the Nobel Prize-awarding Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. His mentors have a cumulative experience of over 20,000 robotic surgeries. Following his exceptional international training, he undertook a Senior Fellowship at the world-renowned Oxford University where he still holds a visiting appointment as a Senior Researcher.

Professor Sooriakumaran is the only urologist to top the London's Most Influential People in Healthcare List in the Evening Standard, the only urologist under 50 to be cited as one of the top 10 urologists in Britain in a Daily Mail poll of UK urologists, and the only urologist to be appointed as a Health Services Journal Judge for the prestigious Cancer Award. Professor Sooriakumaran also holds a Bronze National Clinical Excellence Award for his services to healthcare, and is a member of the London North-East regional sub-committee that scores these applications.

Professor Sooriakumaran has published over 200 scientific articles, tens of books/ book chapters, and won dozens of international and national awards; his research has generated a h-index of 37 and over 6000 citations, giving Professor Sooriakumaran unparalleled stature among UK robotic prostate cancer surgeons of his generation.

In spite of time spent on his work commitments, Professor Sooriakumaran is a family man and spends his spare time playing golf with his children and dining out with his wife.
